A Song Called "Hope"
Several years ago a friend of mine was diagnosed with a rare cancer. Wanting to offer him comfort and encouragement during one of his most difficult times, I wrote this song for him. The song meant a great deal to him and I hoped it might bring comfort to others facing similar battles as well. I shared it online and donated the proceeds from every purchase to City of Hope in support of cancer research. Later, I was honored to be invited to perform the song at a City of Hope event. Although I wasn’t able to attend, the invitation itself meant the world to me.
At the time I wrote the song, I never imagined that I would one day become a patient at City of Hope myself.
Years later, after my own breast cancer diagnosis, the words I had written to encourage someone else became the words I desperately needed to hear. Listening to the song first as a supporter, then as a patient, and now as a survivor has been a surreal and emotional experience. It has reminded me that hope can meet us in every chapter of our journey.
Today, my friend has recovered from his illness, and I have too. It is a gift I will never take for granted.
I hope this song brings you the same reminder it brought us both: even in the darkest days, there’s still light.
